Highland Sexual Health offers an adult Gender Identity service which includes assessment and access, if required, to medical intervention in relation to gender dysphoria. A GP referral is required to access this service and currently within Highland you must be aged 17 or over to be referred, with a view to being seen when you are 18. Anyone under 17, can be referred to the Young Persons Service at Sandyford Glasgow.
Although every patient’s gender journey will be different, please see this factsheet that could answer some questions you may have about our service.
We are currently unable to see new patients due to staffing issues but our waiting list remains open.
For access to support services regarding gender identity please visit the Support sections of either our website or the NGICNS website or if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Highland Sexual Health on 01463 888300 and someone from the Gender Team will get back to you.
If you are being seen by the Gender Identity team and any of your contact details change, please call us on 01463 888300 to update these on your record. If we do not have the correct contact details for you, this may delay treatment.
NHS Scotland is arranging a review of the ways in which Trans people in Scotland receive gender identity healthcare. The review will be based around the needs of the people who use the services. NHS Scotland would like to hear from people currently using our service as they progress through the review.
