Contraceptive Injection
The contraceptive injection does what it says on the tin! It’s an injection containing progestogen hormone given into a woman’s muscle which slowly releases into the body. The contraception injection works to stop a woman’s ovaries releasing an egg. Some women are offered a similar injection that they can use at home.
How effective is the contraceptive injection?
If used correctly (no missed injections) the contraceptive injection is over 99% effective (this means that each year less than one woman in a 100 will get pregnant using this method to prevent pregnancy).
