Female Sterilisation
Female sterilisation is a surgical procedure which prevents pregnancy by cutting, sealing or blocking the tubes that allow eggs to pass from a woman’s ovaries into her womb. We do not perform female sterilisation at Highland Sexual Health. If you are considering sterilisation please contact your GP.
How long does female sterilisation last?
Female sterilisation is permanent and should only be considered by women who are sure they don’t want any children in the future.

How effective is female sterilisation?
The overall lifetime failure rate of female sterilisation is approximately 1 in 200. This means that one out of every 200 women using sterilisation as contraception will get pregnant during the rest of her lifetime.
