You may be aware that the Speech and Language Therapy service in NHS Highland have had to pause the Transgender Voice Service due to their overall waiting lists becoming unmanageable. This is due to considerable pressures on their very small team due to staff vacancies and an increase in referrals.
If you were on their waiting list for voice therapy, you will now have been discharged.
We understand that this pause in the service could be distressing and we want you to be aware that we are actively looking for a solution, which may include an alternative provider, to be able to offer voice therapy to our transgender patients.
In the meantime, to learn more about voice production, or find further support for your journey to finding your authentic voice, you may find some of the following resources useful. *Please note: The inclusion of these materials and organisations is not an endorsement.*
The Voice Book for Trans and Non-Binary People | Jessica Kingsley Publishers - UK
The Transmasculine Voice: A Guide to Vocal Euphoria (paper) – London Trans Choir
We will be in contact with you as soon as we are able to resume referring patients for voice therapy.
